Waiting On Wednesday #1 ~ Deception

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Deception (Defiance, #2)Title: Deception
Author: C. J. Redwine
Publication: 27th August 2013

goodreads:
Baalboden has been ravaged. The brutal Commander's whereabouts are unknown. And Rachel, grief stricken over her father's death, needs Logan more than ever. With their ragged group of survivors struggling to forge a future, it's up to Logan to become the leader they need—with Rachel by his side. Under constant threat from rival Carrington's army, who is after the device that controls the Cursed One, the group decides to abandon the ruins of their home and take their chances in the Wasteland.

But soon their problems intensify tenfold: someone—possibly inside their ranks—is sabotaging the survivors, picking them off one by one. The chaos and uncertainty of each day puts unbearable strain on Rachel and Logan, and it isn't long before they feel their love splintering. Even worse, as it becomes clear that the Commander will stop at nothing to destroy them, the band of survivors begins to question whether the price of freedom may be too great—and whether, hunted by their enemies and the murderous traitor in their midst, they can make it out of the Wasteland alive.

In this daring sequel to Defiance, with the world they once loved forever destroyed, Rachel and Logan must decide between a life on the run and standing their ground to fight.

I can't wait to get my hands on this one and I really hope to be able to pick up a copy at Authors After Dark in 2 weeks time! I loved the first and I'm very much looking forward to reading more and meeting C.J. Redwine soon.

So this week it's just me as Sally has been more than good and not bought any books. As you all know this is a rare thing for Sally but I'm it will be different next week! I've also been rather good this week and I only decided to buy one book which was The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau. It's a 'if you loved The Hunger Games you'll love this book' and as you may know I did love The Hunger Games, was 50/50 with Catching Fire and hated Mockingjay. The cover of The Testing also drew me in!

What did you all get this week? I'm off to read in bed with a hot chocolate :)

This week I was a little naughty again and bought a few books! First was The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. Everyone knows I'm a crazy Potter fan and I've heard very mixed things about this book which means I have to read it! Next buy was Fathomless by Jackson Pearce, I think I now have all of her books. And I was sent a copy of The River Singers by Tom Moorhouse and a copy of how the cover will look. It's not my usual read but something about it just draws me in! This weeks ebook was The Space Between by Kristie Cook which I'm already hearing good things about!

In a bizarre twist of fate I have also acquired a copy of The Casual Vacancy by J.K Rowling this week! I also got a copy of Awaken by Meg Cabot which is book three in the Abandon series, really looking forward to reading that one and my copy of Blurred by Tara Fuller arrived in the mail as well!  I also got another birthday present which was a manga edition of The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare and Hye Kyung Baek. The artwork is utterly amazing and it's just another chance for me to pop back and visit Jem! That makes me so happy! So all in all I think I've done rather well!

So tell us, what books are you enjoying in this fine weather?

Some amazing books for me this week! I've been hearing about The Grisha series for a while so I finally decided to find out what it's all about.  The first two books I got this week then are Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo.  The next book I got this week was a recommendation that Lauren Kate made a little while ago. For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund is inspired by Persuasion by Jane Austen and I have to say I absolutely loved it! To give you better insight into the story it's best if you also read the prequel Among the Nameless Stars which is written from Kai's perspective and gives a good grounding for the main read.  The last book I got my hands on is the end of another series.  Elegy is the last book in the Hereafter series by Tara Hudson.  This is another of my most anticipated reads of 2013, but sad times are afoot as I wave goodbye to another fab series.

The last 2 weeks I've not done too bad, well I did buy two books! I bought Selected Poems 1923-1958 by E.E. Cummings and Firelight by Sophie Jordan as I know she will be at Authors After Dark :) Over the last two weeks I've been sent four books for review which are, Haunted by William Hussey, Oliver and the Seawigs by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre, the beautiful paperback edition of Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher and The Eye of Minds by James Dashner. All look brilliant and I cant wait to read them! Oh and not forgetting, I also got a copy of Goblin Fruit by Laini Taylor! I really can't wait to read this one, I love Laini's work!!!!

Review ~ Blurred ~ Tara Fuller

Title: Blurred

Author: Tara Fuller

Published: 2nd July 2013

By: Entangled.

First line: The flames closed in, each lick of heat a tick of the clock.

Last line:  I felt complete.

Fave line: “Like, I’m in a room full of people and I’m screaming my lungs out but none of them can hear me.   But Emma…she always hears me.”

Inbetween was one of my surprise fave reads of last year and I totally fell in love with Finn’s story.  As much as I loved Finn I also ended up having a huge soft spot for Chase.  Chase was the bad boy with the good heart who at the end of it all lost the one he loved to a dead guy. And then he lost his own life, or at least he should have done and it should have been Anaya who was supposed to do the wicked deed. But Anaya isn’t as strong as first appearances suggest. In the end she saves Chase, returning him in body and spirit to the mortal world.  So, happy endings all round? A no,no,no! Anaya may have saved him but her motives weren’t thoroughly altruistic in the end and she’s not the only one after him.  Because Cash is still dying. What matters now is who gets to claim him and will he get what he wants in the end?

This is a sequel but it stands out as its own read, equally as strong as its predecessor.  Chase and Anaya are fantastic together  no matter how hard they try to stay apart and when you add to that the fact that Chase knows that his days are limited and the physical torment his body is put through what you end up here is one massive books of feels!

It’s great to see Finn and Emma during the course of this story and to see how their relationship develops after the events of book one.  The nice thing though is their story doesn’t impinge in Chase’s story, we if you take Chase’s hatred for Finn out of the equation.  There is also a cooling between Chase and Emma and this does contribute to many of the feels in this story. Does it all work out for them in the end? I’m not telling you! What I will tell you is that Chase will break your heart bit by bit as he takes you on his journey.
Now, I’m thinking that maybe we need something on Easton? Hmm? Are you listening Ms Fuller?

Quick addition to this review - Tara has since revealed on her Facebook page that there will be a third book and it will be about Easton! Huzzah!! Descent will be out in the summer of 2014.  Too long I know, but it's on it's way! Happy happy girl!

Many thanks to Entangled for forwarding a copy for review.

Rating: 4/5  I loved reading Chase’s story! More please!
